Great runners raise funds for Shared Interest Foundation
On Sunday 11 September, five runners joined 57,000 others to line the streets of Newcastle to take part in this year's Great North Run, in aid of our sister charity, Shared Interest Foundation.
Shared Interest member Melissa Duncan was one of the runners who took part in the event. Melissa's fantastic fundraising efforts raised a whopping £1,650.
Melissa said: "As a member of Shared Interest I was aware of the good work of the Foundation and of its importance. When I found out Shared Interest Foundation had places in the Great North Run I thought this would be a great opportunity to support it.
"The generous sponsorship and encouraging messages of support were a needed boost during the run, especially at mile 11 which was hilly and particularly unpleasant with the sun beating down. My final time was 2:16 which meant that Mo Farah came in slightly in front of me: 19,886 places! But at least that means there were significantly more people behind me than in front of me.
"You can see how tired but pleased I was at the end of the race from the photo. Later that evening it all seemed worth it when I realised that the generosity of my sponsors meant that I'd raised £1,650 for Shared Interest Foundation."
