From Monday 21 September to Sunday 4 October 2026, the Newcastle Fairtrade Trail, created by Newcastle Fairtrade Partnership in collaboration with Shared Interest and Food Newcastle, will guide residents and visitors through the canny streets of our city, stopping off at the businesses that make Newcastle a fairer place to eat, drink, and shop.
If you're a business stocking Fairtrade certified products or supporting fair trade values and principles, we'd love to hear from you and welcome you to join the Trail as a participating venue.
Newcastle became one of the first Fairtrade cities in England back in 2003. More than twenty years on, that spirit is still going strong and our new Trail is a chance to put your business at the heart of it.
What is the Fairtrade Trail?
The Trail is a self-guided route around the city’s ethical establishments — cafés, restaurants, shops and community spaces. During Fairtrade Fortnight, people across Newcastle will visit participating venues, discover the fair trade artwork displays created by local schoolchildren, snap a photo at each stop, and enter into a raffle to win a hamper of Fairtrade treats.
It’s part scavenger hunt, part celebration — and every venue on the map gets to share in the footfall and the goodwill.

Why take part?
Joining the Trail puts your business in front of new customers who are actively looking for places that share their values. You’ll be featured on the official Trail map, welcome trail-goers through your doors during Fairtrade Fortnight 2026, and stand alongside Newcastle’s community of ethical businesses. Most of all, you’ll be helping to build a city that’s fairer for the farmers and producers who grow the food we eat, but too often struggle to feed their own families because of unfair trading systems.
What’s involved?
Taking part is free and simple. As a Trail venue, you’ll:
- Stock Fairtrade — whether that’s selling certified products or using fairtrade products.
- Display a piece of fair trade artwork created by local schoolchidren in your venue, so trail-goers can find it, photograph it, and learn what fairness means to the next generation.
- Welcome visitors following the Trail throughout Fairtrade Fortnight.

Spaces on the map fill up as Fairtrade Fortnight approaches, so the sooner you register, the better.
