Foundation Development Lead (Maternity Cover)

12-month Fixed Term Contract – To start 1^st September 2026

Hybrid working (3 days’ home based), Newcastle City Centre location for 2 days

We have a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Shared Interest Foundation team, we are continuing to expand our reach and enhance our impact and are now seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to provide maternity cover for a 12-month fixed term contract.

Shared Interest Foundation is a dynamic and mission-driven charity dedicated to the development of sustainable enterprises, empowering women and youth, and building climate resilience in remote communities within Africa and Latin America.

In this role you will support and contribute to the Foundation’s growth by developing and contributing towards the effective delivery of projects in line with the mission and strategy of Shared Interest Foundation.

Responsibilities include:

Work with Foundation Manager and Project Officers in regions to develop potential new projects and new partners.
Responsible for the Grants and Trusts Fundraiser incumbent to ensure the objectives of this role are fulfilled. Support the Grants and Trusts Fundraiser to deliver effective grant management, helping to ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the agreed budget, timeline and project objectives.
Provide oversight of the restricted fundraising process and support the Grants and Trusts Fundraiser to research, write and submit accurate and persuasive funding applications.
Lead on development and submission of high-quality project reports, with support from the Grants and Trusts Fundraiser.
Maintain and further develop strong partnerships with project partners and key stakeholders.
Work collaboratively with the Membership and Volunteer Engagement Manager to maximise volunteer support in line with the Foundation’s Strategic Plan.
Lead on the provision of project content for marketing and communication materials and work with the Marketing and Communications team to raise awareness of the Foundation through digital platforms and printed materials
Take an active role in Foundation business planning and budget development
Produce appropriate documentation including project status reports and support Foundation Manager to compile internal management and Board reports.
Provide reports and input as required for communication materials, including QR and Annual Review.
Support Foundation KPI monitoring and reporting.

About you

You will be an experienced project and fundraising professional with a strong track record in project development, grants and trusts fundraising, and delivering complex programmes from concept through to reporting. You will be an exceptional communicator who can build effective relationships with partners, donors, colleagues and beneficiaries across cultures and time zones, while producing clear, persuasive funding applications and high‑quality project reports. You will be organised, proactive and analytical, confident managing multiple priorities, budgets and deadlines, and comfortable contributing to strategic planning. A commitment to fair trade, international development, and the mission of Shared Interest is essential, along with the ability to work flexibly within a small, collaborative team, as well as providing line management support. A degree and or relevant experience in international development is a must and working knowledge of French or Spanish would be an advantage.

Non-Executive Director

The Board of Shared Interest provides mission-based leadership, strategic governance, and fiduciary oversight. While day-to-day operations are led by the Senior Leadership Team (SLT), the Board plays a critical role in shaping the long-term vision and ensuring organisational resilience. Central to this resilience is the work of our Audit Committee; the successful candidate will join as a committee member with the clear intent of succeeding to the role of Chair.

We are seeking individuals who combine a deep passion for social justice with the professional rigor required to oversee a complex international financial portfolio.

Specific Competencies

For this recruitment cycle, we are specifically seeking candidates with proven expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Qualified Accountant: Professional certification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with significant post-qualification experience.
Charity Reporting: Knowledge of charity accounting standards (SORP) and financial reporting requirements.
Risk Management Frameworks: An understanding of risk management frameworks within a financial services context including oversight of international credit risk, portfolio diversification, and regulatory compliance (such as AML, KYC, and Sanctions).
Financial Risk & Mitigation: A high level of financial literacy with a proven track record of identifying complex financial risks and providing robust, constructive challenge to proposed mitigation strategies.
Foreign Currency Management (Desirable): An awareness of foreign currency management and the associated risks.
Investment and loan finance(Desirable): Experience of investment accounting and loan book management, ideally within an international or social finance context.

Board terms/participation

Shared Interest’s Board Members serve 2 x three year terms. There are six Board Meetings per year, held in person in Newcastle in addition to the AGM and any sub-committee meetings. Sub-committees include Remuneration, Audit and Nominations. Non-Executive Directors are also expected to attend a minimum of one member event per year. This means the time commitment is 12 days including preparation time and correspondence.

Remuneration

Remuneration levels are set by the members at the AGM and are normally reviewed every 3 years. Non-Executives currently receive £4,052 p.a. In addition to this, reasonable travel and other incidental expenses are reimbursed.

Volunteer Ambassador

Please note this is an unpaid voluntary role

About our Ambassadors

Our network of Ambassadors represent Shared Interest in their local area. They inspire others to support us and invest by seeking opportunities to increase awareness of Shared Interest such as delivering talks and running information stalls. Supporting, and supported by, our Member Engagement Team, Ambassadors contribute their knowledge and passion to enable us to reach potential investors.

About the role

This volunteer home-based role is for UK residents only and carried out within your local area. You will receive remote support from a dedicated staff member. Email, phone and online video communication will be required. The role is ongoing and the time commitment depends on your capacity to generate opportunities. We are looking for volunteers who would aim to fulfil four or more activities per year.

You will have the opportunity to utilise and develop your networking and communication skills and you will be helping us raise even more investment so we can enable disadvantaged communities to trade their way out of poverty.
