University of Ghana – Department of Crop Science

The Department is involved in conducting ‘research to respond to the changing needs of society as well as changes in environmental and climatic factors to ensure food security.’

We first partnered with the Department to provide additional technical support for the Shared Interest Foundation project with social enterprise TradeAID in Ghana, to increase economic opportunities for female basket weavers. The soilless farming technique implemented was originally developed by the university, and they provided practical and theoretical training to the project team. Follow up field visits and mentoring will continue to increase the sustainability of the project.
