Non-Executive Director

We are seeking a passionate and motivated Non-Executive Director to further enhance the knowledge and expertise on our Board. We see this as an exciting opportunity to use your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of people across the world.  Our aim is to alleviate poverty by enabling people in remote and disadvantaged communities, to trade and earn a living.  We do this by pooling the investments of our members and lending these funds to farmers and handcraft producers, who buy seeds, fertilisers and raw materials.  Once they sell their crops or crafts, they pay back the loan, and we lend this money again.

In every aspect of our work, we are committed to being a diverse and inclusive organisation.  We are seeking a leader who shares our values and through collaboration and teamwork will enable us to achieve our ambitions and who will provide mission based leadership, independent judgement and strategic governance.  In order to complement our current Board, we would like to hear from candidates with knowledge, skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:  

  • Treasury Management
  •  Commercial Lending
  •  Banking

Successful candidates will have previous experience as a non-executive

Shared Interest’s Board Members serve 2 x 3 year terms.  You must be able to attend meetings at least five times a year, in addition to attendance at the AGM and any sub-committee meetings. The time commitment is approximately 12 days.  

The remuneration for the role is £3,420 p.a.  In addition, reasonable travel and other incidental expenses will be reimbursed.

Event Assistant - Greenbelt (Volunteer)

Please note this is a voluntary role. 

We are looking for volunteers to help man our stall at Greenbelt festival in Northamptonshire from 26th - 29th August. Supporting our Member Engagement Team, Event Assistants will:

  • Raise awareness of Shared Interest by talking to attendees of Greenbelt from our stall in the Takeaway area
  • Answer general enquiries from attendees and visitors to the stall

The role

This role is a one-off opportunity to support our presence at Greenbelt (https://www.greenbelt.org.uk/ ). You will be responsible for ensuring visitors to our stall are engaged and learn about Shared Interest. You will be working with a small number of other volunteers and will be supported with resources and materials to give away.

We are looking for volunteers who can commit between two and six hours during the festival. The role will be active from 26th - 29th August 2022.

You will have the opportunity to utilise and develop your communication skills and you will help us raise our profile and investment so we can enable even more disadvantaged communities to trade their way out of poverty.

We will provide a short online training session and briefing prior to the event.

The person

We would love to hear from you if you:

  • Are pro-active and self-motivated
  • Can inspire others and have good people skills
  • Have empathy with the aims and objectives of Shared Interest
  • Use email and are computer literate (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Are attending Greenbelt and are willing to contribute between two and six hours of your time over the festival

We will support you with the following:

  • Induction training (online)
  • Ongoing support with a staff contact
  • Resources to support you in your role
  • Basic reference (if requested)
  • Reasonable expenses (as discussed and agreed in advance of the event)
