Consejo

Our Council

Our volunteer Council is made up of eight members of Shared Interest Society, four chosen at random and four who have put themselves forward to be elected.

The role of this group is to represent and reflect the views of membership to the Board of Directors. The main aim is to help keep the Society faithful to its mission and ensure the strategy of the Society and the interests of members remain aligned.

In accordance with the Society's rules one non-random member of Council retires each year on the basis of rotation and the last election was held in March 2020.

Election of new Council Member

The Council of Shared Interest comprises eight members who are elected to represent the views and interests of all Members of the Society to the Board of Directors and Management. Four of those members are chosen completely at random and four are members who have put themselves forward to be elected to Council.

The Council meets formally three times a year and informally at the AGM in March. It also conducts occasional discussions on relevant issues by email, telephone or video calls between meetings.

At the AGM in 2023, two randomly chosen members of Council will reach the end of their term of office and retire. They will be replaced by two new randomly chosen members. Also, each year a proportion of those members of Council not chosen randomly, retires by rotation, and in 2023 Anjum Misbahuddin will do so. She is eligible and intending to stand for re-election, but would welcome a contested election should other members wish to stand.

Members of the Society are invited to consider standing as a candidate in the election, which will be held in early 2023 by a postal ballot. If this role matches your interests and experience and you are able to commit the time, details are available for your consideration from Tim Morgan, Shared Interest Secretary. Members of Council are also happy to talk to prospective candidates.
